About Us

Welcome to The Naked Reader
Need something interesting and informative to read on the road or just to fill the odd hour?

Welcome to The Naked Reader — A Commonplace book for Cyberspace. Launched in 2006.

We don't go in for Mission Statements, but if we did ours would be To Entertain, to Amuse, To Inform. There is stuff here about history, science, music, style, bikes, anything and everything which takes our fancy. If it interests us, it's in. We hope it will interest you too.

Feel free to dip in and out as the mood takes you. You can catch up on all our content in the Sections on the left.

Commonplace Books
Commonplace books (or commonplaces) emerged in the 15th century with the availability of cheap paper for writing, mainly in England.

Commonplaces were essentially scrapbooks, filled with items of every kind: medical recipes, quotes, letters, poems, tables of weights and measures, proverbs, prayers, legal formulas. They were used by readers, writers, students and humanists as an aid for rememberng useful concepts, ideas and fact they had learned.
