Nepal Airlines sacrificed two goats in front of a troublesome Boeing 757 in an offering to Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god.
Last week Nepal's media reported that the blamed the company's woes on an electrical fault. The carrier, which has two Boeing aircraft, has had to suspend some services in recent weeks because of the problem.
The goats were slaughtered at Nepal's only international airport in Kathmandu in accordance with Hindu traditions, an official said.
(Middle Eastern and Asian newspapers carried pictures of the goats being sacrificed on the tarmac in front of the plane. Western readers were treated instead to generic images of "cuddly" goats, presumably being judged too sensitive to view the sacrificial photographs).
