The temperature of the forthcoming electoral campaign to be Mayor of London has ratcheted up several degrees with the announcement that the popular political maverick Boris Johnson, the Tory MP and journalist, has thrown his hat into the ring to be the official Tory candidate for London Mayor against the cranky Labour incumbent Ken Livingstone.
Londoners now have the enticing prospect of the two most politically incorrect men in British politics, Ken Livingstone (Labour) the current mayor and Boris Johnson, (Tory) MP and journalist going head to head.
Expect Ken to push hard for the Moslem vote and Boris to do well in the leafier stretches of west London.
Both men have a reputation for making gaffes and not caring either. The Campaign should be fun and to follow it in full, we are replacing our featured Willie Watch column with a Boris Watch for the duration.
