The latest cool cocktails were served up at the Observer Food Monthly annual awards in London recently. Ex-Blur Bassist turned farmer and cheesemaker Alex James was on hand to dish out the awards.
The guitarist announced recently that the original Blur band including Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon are to reform for a recording session in August 2007. However, he said, "We're gonna see if we've still got it. If not, I think we'll call it a day. Alex James's auobiographyA Bit of Blur is out shortly on Amazon UK.
Among the cocktails on offer to guests at the Awards:
Snow Queen mint special
50ml Snow Queen vodka
35ml syrup de gomme (sugar syrup)
handful of fresh mint leaves
20ml lime juice
ice cubes
Put everything into a shaker with a handful of ice cubs and shake for 20 seconds. Strain into a tall glass filled with rice. Top up with ice and soda and serve with a sprig of mint.
and for whiskey drinks
Mackay sour
35 ml Whyte and Mackay whiskey
20ml lemon juice
15ml honey
35ml Bramley juice
20ml egg whitet
Shake all the ingredients hard with the ice and strain over more cubed ice into a tumbler. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
