The Naked Reader is an AVID fan of the wisecracking Texan country singer turned detective novelist turned would-be politician, Richard "Kinky" Friedman, who last year beat all the odds to gain a place on the ballot for Texas governor.
Kinky ran a high profile campaign as an Independent supporting green issues and education and toured the state in a pink "GovBug" but ultimately lost out to incumbent governor Republican Rick Perry.
Since then he has been busy fund raising for his Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch and writing a new book, on politics, entitled, "You Can Take a Politician to Water but you Can't Make Him Think". It is due out this fall.
Kinky is currently cutting a new album with his old friend and long time supporter Willie Nelson, to be called "Kinky, the Rodeo Clown".
Kinky is also in demand on the lecture circuit, there is talk of a television chat show and a visiting fellowship at Harvard also beckons.
Kinky has not given up his political ambitions however, and has recently been hinting he is considering standing again for Texas governor, next time as the Democratic candidate.
