Went to see Blackie and the Rodeo Kings at London's Borderline club last night. Their first ever European tour.
Around 8.30 pm three grizzled, middle-aged musicians in black Nashville glitter suits leapt on the stage and tore the place apart for the next two hours. Playing a blend of hard country rock and rootsy r and b, they were just sensational. Think ZZ top meets Tom Petty.
At one point they jumped off the stage, tore out the cables from their guitars and serenaded the audience acoustically. And Ron Sexsmith turned up part way through the set with the Bare Naked Ladies, one of whom joined in with the band for one number.
Superb musicians, great showmen and all round nice guys. Don't miss them is they are near you.
Blackie and the Rodeo kings are (L to R in the pictures) Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson. The band were in London as part of a European tour to promote their latest album Let's Frolic . T
he guys who are all highly talented musicians in their own right, have also joined forces to play and record together as a band for the last ten years.
